Hive Mind: 2025 Summer Travel

Athens, Greece

The Local Foreigner team maintains a lively Teams chat discourse and Whatsapp group - swapping tips, experiences, stories, and photos from every corner of the globe and at all hours. Hive Mind is a peek inside the group think.

We checked in with the Local Foreigner team to see what they’re most excited about this summer, both from a personal travel perspective and when it comes to client trips. For Local Foreigner advisors traveling with their families, summer 2025 is shaping up to be all about Europe - but we’re not seeing as much of the usual suspects along the Amalfi Coast and South of France. Instead, team members are scouting out new beaches in Greece, France, Spain, and Sicily - plus a few mountaintop treks and city escapes. And on the client side, there are some enviable adventures on the books - we love a client willing to pair Nepal and Singapore, or a big, full-family adventure throughout Sweden.

Advisor Travel

Corsica

Corners of the Med

“We’re taking our annual Partners’ retreat in late June, and this year, we’re headed to Corsica. We have some boat days planned both with and without kids, golf and wine tasting on the docket, time at the island’s beach clubs, and a guided hike through the Bavella Needles.”

-Alex Erdman Ely

“My husband and I love a beach, so we’re headed to Sardinia! There are so many new hotels opening this season and over the next couple summers, so I am really excited to visit a destination that is only getting hotter.”

-Elizabeth Walsh

“Spain! Everyone’s talking about Spain, including me! My husband, son, and I are headed to Madrid, Mallorca, and Menorca - the Balearics especially have so many new openings and I am dreaming about long seafood lunches at breezy seaside restaurants…”

-Missy Fauser

Paros

Greece is the word

“I’m getting my summer base tan in Greece! Starting at One&Only Aesthesis in Athens, then checking out One&Only Kea Island and the Mandarin Oriental Costa Navarino before ending with some time at Amanzoe.”

-Patty Ehinger

“Going back to Greece for the first time since I was a teenager - I am really looking forward to hitting all the big players in the Cyclades. I’m spending some time on Mykonos, Paros, and Santorini, and of course will be doing some touring in Athens, staying at the new Athens Capital Suites-MGallery Collection, which opened this spring.”
-Alex Kramer

“Greece! I have only ever been to the northeast - Thessaloniki and east. So this will be my first time in Athens and Mykonos, and we’re also heading to Tinos and Kea Island.”

-Marie High

Lake Bled, Slovenia

To Italy…and beyond!

“I have to admit I have a pretty epic Italy itinerary on the books - some scouting in Rome, staying at Six Senses Rome and Hotel de la Ville, a few days in Florence, up to Venice to see the newly renovated Belmond Cipriani, and then circling back down to the Amalfi Coast to visit Belmond Caruso in Ravello and Le Sirenuse in Positano. It’s a bit of an embarrassment of riches… I can’t wait.”

-Caroline Sloan

“I am pretty psyched for our summer trip!  Il Pellicano, to Tuscany, then Four Seasons Taormina in Sicily - and straight into Manchester to see OASIS!!!!”

-Tracy Stromberg

“I’m doing Ischia with my husband and twins, and then we’re heading up into Slovenia, which I have heard is absolutely gorgeous and is starting to get some new hotel product. Super excited about the potential of the destination for people who are into hiking, scenery, and outdoor adventure. And then a totally separate scouting trip to Lake Muskoka, in Ontario, Canada, which we’re hearing more and more about for summer lake houses and multigen trips!”

Client Trips

The Azores

European Potpurri

“Working on a fun Azores itinerary for a family with young kids - love how easy the non-stop flight is from New York, especially in the summer when it happens almost daily.”

-Meg Nolan

“I have a cool Sweden trip for a family with college aged kids - Stockholm, Gothenburg, Gotland, & Wanas. I love Sweden and obviously it’s glorious in peak summer!”

-Camilla Catlin

“I am working on parallel trips for a family - they’re heading to Europe together, but then the dad and son are doing a trek on the Camino de Santiago while the mom and daughters relax at Mezzatore on Ischia. Not sure which half I’d rather join!”

-Lauren Dru

The Troll Peninsula

Paris Plus

“I have a few adventurous clients who are thinking outside the box - a fun Paris + Gstaad trip, for culture and mountains. And then an itinerary you don’t see every day that includes Nepal, Singapore, and Bawah Reserve - I am especially envious about that one!”

-Alex Kramer

“Paris and then Deplar Farm, the Eleven Experience property on the Troll Peninsula in Iceland! Love a classic stop connected to something more adventurous and off the beaten path.”

-Patty Ehinger

The Great Migration

Into Africa

“I feel so lucky every time I plan someone’s first trip to Africa, so I am really excited for one family’s trip to the Serengeti to see the Great Migration. And then afterward, they’re heading to the Seychelles to decompress!”

-Elizabeth Walsh

“Africa is back in a big way, and I have several clients doing safari + beach combos this summer, with some ending their trips in Mozambique and others in Zanzibar. So cool.”
